In honor of Earth Day,Travel and Leisure magazine has posted their America’s Greenest Cities according to its readers. To determine the rankings, T + L tallied the results from three survey categories: cleanliness, pedestrian-friendliness and public transit, and great public parks. What is America’s perception of “Urbs in Horto”? Check out the results below:
1. Portland, OR
2. Savannah, GA
3. Minneapolis, MN
4. Denver, CO
5. Chicago, IL
6. Seattle, WA
7. Portland, ME
8. San Diego, CA
9. San Fransico, CA
10. Santa Fe, NM
This is what Travel and Leisure had to say about Chicago:
The Windy City came in first place for its cool architecture—but the greenest view of the buildings may be from above. Chicago has more energy-efficient “green roofs” than any other U.S. city, including lush, planted roofs on Soldier Field, O’Hare International Airport, and City Hall. You can even buy honey from the City Hall’s rooftop beehives at the year-round Downtown Farmstand. Voters, meanwhile, may have preferred another homegrown delicacy: they ranked the decadent pizzaat No. 1.
